Bring a procurement question, a teaming problem, or a capability you want on the cluster’s radar. The AMA is held online; in-person attendance at Rakar, Incorporated in Oxnard is by appointment only.
Federally funded research and development center managed for NASA by the California Institute of Technology. Robotic planetary exploration, deep-space instrumentation and the Deep Space Network.
NASA’s primary center for atmospheric flight research and operations, co-located with the Air Force Test Center at Edwards. Airborne science, flight test and aeronautics.
Entry systems and thermal protection, wind tunnels, air traffic management, small spacecraft and advanced computing.
Three of NASA’s ten field centers sit in California. Each publishes its own procurement notices; all federal solicitations are posted centrally at SAM.gov. The Observer tracks instruments from these sites in Standing Watch each week.
A weekly intelligence briefing published by SpaceReturn///// The California Space Cluster. It records federal solicitations, appropriations movement, contract awards and industrial-base developments that bear on California suppliers, with every claim linked to the primary record.
Suppliers below the prime tier — machine shops, molders, test houses, engineering firms — and the program, procurement and economic-development people who work with them.
Nothing. It is free to read and free to receive.
Weekly, on Saturday mornings. It is written to be read once, properly, with a cup of coffee or tea — not skimmed on the way into a meeting.
A standing column where members post capability sought and capability offered against named solicitations. Entries are short and specific. To place one, write to the co-founders with the instrument number and what you need or can supply.
A one-page statement of what your shop can make, to what tolerance, under which certifications, with which registrations. The cluster holds these and matches them to open instruments. Cards received before a monthly AMA are reviewed on that call.
Write to info@spacereturn.org. There is no fee. Members are expected to keep a current capability card on file.
Yes. The monthly public AMA is open. It runs on the first Saturday of each month, 8:00–8:45 a.m. Pacific.
Primary records — SAM.gov notices, agency press releases, committee documents, company filings — and identified reporting. Every item carries its link. Where a value cannot be confirmed, the Observer says so rather than estimating.
Write to the co-founders with the issue number and the sentence. Corrections are published in the following issue.
The Space Observer is written for the operators, founders, engineers, and capital partners moving inside the California Space Cluster and the wider space and defense industrial base. Free to read. Members receive additional procurement, teaming and capital intelligence.
